HONORARY AWARD

1. Roll of Fellows of the Association (FNMA) (a) Fellowship of the Association shall be the highest honour granted to members whose services, in the interest of the Association and of the profession of medicine, have been outstanding and merit special recognition.

(b) Any member or group of members may nominate to Council, through the Secretary-General, a member or members to be considered for approval for the award of the Fellow of the Nigerian Medical Association (FNMA) provided the National Committee on Awards and Honours shall make its recommendation on any nomination known to the NEC before it takes its decision.

Past Presidents can only be considered for FNMA after four years of leaving office. Any member or group of members shall have the right to recommend any past president for fellowship. He/she shall attach his/her Curriculum Vitae including his/her contributions to the Association in writing, through the Secretary-General, to the President-in-Council at least six months before the ADM. Such nominations shall be accompanied with the Curriculum Vitae of the nominee(s).

(c) The nomination shall be approved in the first instance by at least two-thirds of the total voting membership of the NEC. In other words, every member may vote either in person or by proxy.

(d) The ADM shall finally ratify the nomination of NEC by two-thirds majority of voting members present at the meeting, provided in each case 2/3 shall be approximated to the nearest higher whole number. The recipient shall thereafter be presented with a Certificate and decorated with a GOLD MEDAL, at an immediate subsequent Annual General Conference.

(e) In any one year the ADM shall not confer more than three FNMA awards on members provided any award by the ADM to any number of Past Presidents of NMA shall not be included in the above stated three.

(f) Fellows may be appointed post-humously.

(g) A special register of Fellows shall be maintained.

(h) There shall be a Hall of Fame of the Nigerian Medical Association at the National Secretariat of the Association. The names of the Fellows of the Association shall be listed in this Hall.

2. National Roll of Honour

(a) The Association shall keep a Roll of Honour of its members who have been outstanding and merit such recognition.
(b) Nominations shall be made to Council as in 18(1) and approval by NEC shall be given by at least two-thirds of the Council provided that 2/3 shall be approximated to the nearest higher whole number. Every Council member may vote either in person or by proxy.
(c) A Certificate shall be issued by NEC to a member so honoured.
(d) A special Register shall be maintained for such honoured members.

3. State Roll of Honour

(a) Every State branch shall keep a roll of Honour of its members who have been outstanding and merit special recognition. This shall be the highest honour granted to members at the State level.
(b) The State branch Executive Council shall have authority to consider the nomination of any State branch member to be put on the Roll of Honour. The nomination shall be approved by 2/3 majority of the total membership of the voting members of the State Executive Council provided that 2/3 shall be approximated to the nearest higher whole number.
(c) Not more than five members shall be put on the Roll of Honour in any one year.
(d) A Certificate shall be issued by the State Executive Council to a member so honoured.
(e) A special Register of members on State Roll of Honour shall be maintained.

4. National Committee on Awards and Honours There shall be a Standing Committee on Awards and Honours comprising five members to be constituted as follows:

(i) A Past President as Chairman
(ii) A past Secretary-General
(iii) Secretary-General as Secretary
(iv) Two other members each with not less than 10 years of professional experience.

5. Past Presidents All former Presidents (excepting the Immediate Past President for the time being) shall be designated Past Presidents, and shall be included in the list of Past Presidents accordingly.
