OBJECTIVE HISTOPATHOLOGY: Introducing Morphometry, Image Analysis, Cytometry and Stereology.
- O F Ikpatt and R Ndoma-Egba
SUMMARY
Histopathology aims at making diagnosis of a disease by studying a section of the affected tissue by microscopy. Relevant components of this science include the microscope, the tissue section and the pathologist. The section (and its preparation) appears more standardized than the pathologist involved in interpreting the microscopic image. Grading of the severity of diseases especially neoplasms have become an expected task of the pathologist. The reproducibility of the performance of the pathologist in different tasks varies. Objective measurements on the image or use of image analysis applications aim at reducing inter-observer discrepancies in diagnosis
